Laburnum Netball Club was formed in 2000 by a couple of mums, with the desire to give their kids the opportunity to be part of a team. Ten girls, eager to play the game of netball made up the first-ever Laburnum Netball Club team - the 'Bellbirds' - because of the sound of the Bellbirds in the area surrounding the primary school the girls attended.

Today the club has 16 thriving teams, all named after native Australian birds.
